During my research for this assignment, I stumbled across this YouTube video by thepinkpasty. It is a video slide show of the brutality homosexuals had to endure in the various concentration camps of the Nazi regime. But this work also goes a step further. The video sends a clear message that groups who are sympathetic to the Nazi ideology still exist today.
The author links those radical groups to the Catholic church because of its longstanding disapproval of same sex relationships. The work specifically targets Pope Benedict XVI and charges that he willfully enrolled in Hitler's Youth as a teenager. While most of the factual information of the video is historically accurate, Ratzinger did not join Hitler's Youth of his own accord - enrollment was compulsory. Additionally, Ratzinger's father was an ardent opponent of Nazi policies.
The author cautions that "the bitch that bore that dog of war... is still in heat," a stern warning that Nazi sentiment is still out there and ready to once again take hold.

A powerful video - it shows the power of the media ... Although the position of the Catholic Church on homosexuality is well documented, I'm glad to see the comments that you made about Ratzinger - again, it shows how media not treated and dealt with in a "thoughtful" manner can be used to distort the truth.
Good video Nick..although that music is a terribly disturbing (and totally weird..) choice.
I highly recommend the documentary Paragraph 175. I know we talked about it in class for a minute already but if anyone is interested in learning more about the persecution of gay people in Germany (not only during the Holocaust but also before and after) it is a good source of info.
Although Berlin was a place where homosexuals were generally left alone (if not actually accepted), being gay was illegal in all of Germany, according to law established looooong before the Holocaust began. Gay Holocaust survivors have never received a dime of reparations, as being gay was still illegal after the war ended. People that had the good fortune to survive the camps were repeatedly jailed for being gay in Germany until the late 1950's.
