When looking for current news that reflected some of the elements or characteristics of the holocaust I was floored when the perfect example came out at me from the front page of Providence's local newspaper! The Providence Journal on May 1, 2008 headlined with "Curfew Quiets Central Falls." In reaction to several shootings that took place over the weekend, the city has now placed a curfew on individuals under the age of 18, forbidding them to be on the streets after 9pm. I couldn't help but think...if Central Falls can place a city-wide curfew on minors (under the umbrella of "for their own good")--what will they be able to do next? Check out the link below!

While I'm surprised that they took this action so quickly, I couldn't be happier about it. I've been living in CF for about two years now and have been a victim of crime on my own street and was attacked in nearby Pawtucket this past Halloween (where I grew up). In both cases, the criminals were 18 and under. It is no longer as safe as it used to be anywhere and changes to be made. Two teenagers were shot in broad daylight this past week in CF and I think the city has finally had enough. It does make me feel a little safer however, no one should believe that all criminals are under 18 and CF is still a dangerous city. My parents are former CF police officers and they also feel like this could be a drastic but ultimately helpful step towards saving lives and reducing crime.

I'm glad to hear the response from Ellary (since she lives there) ...
It does beg the question of what we should be doing in relation to our youth ... what's happening when there is a breakdown that causes this type of violence ...
It makes me think of bystanders ...
